The Provincial Advisor Finance M.A. Jalil, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Secretary Finance Mallik Israr and other officials were also present on the occasion. In the meeting various ongoing programmes in different sectors in Sindh came under review.
Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said that present government's foremost priorities include reform programmes, continuity of development projects and policies to ensure good governance. He said that emphasis is being laid on improving financial discipline and working of functionaries in every department.
He informed that present government worked without any discrimination to complete the ongoing schemes of the past. The continuity of reforms programme in financial management, education, health, irrigation and other sectors was ensured with the same spirit with which these were launched.
The governor told the visitors that besides direct steps taken, improvements having direct bearing on development were also brought about in these sectors. In this regard he referred to an improvement in law and order in the last few years and said this gave rise to a positive image for Karachi in the world. He said that as a result of this an era of industrial development started in the province.
He informed the delegation that with an increase in industrial units in the interior of Sindh, every second industry in Karachi is now keen for further expansion. He expressed the hope that with the co-operation of World Bank, the progress for improvement in different sectors in the province will further stabilise.
The governor also apprised the team about special development being focussed on human resource development and in this regard he said that special programmes have been started in the health and education sectors.
He also highlighted the performance of local government system and said it has successfully entered into its second term, which is reflective of its popularity.
They also exchanged views on farmer's organisations in the irrigation system. He said wherever these organisations have been formed, these have cast good impacts.
The World Bank delegation informed the governor about their proposals for further speeding up the progress of ongoing schemes.
